Quiet Day

Saturday 2 December from 10am to 3pm at St Johns

A chance to be quiet before the Christmas rush. Come for the whole day if you wish, or drop in for part of the time.

Advent Carols

Sunday 3 December at 6.30pm at St Peters

We begin the season of Advent. The music will include the traditional Advent Antiphons and works by Bruckner, Macmillan, Palestrina, Wood and Ledger. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

Christmas Market

Saturday 9 December at 10am to 12.30pm at St Peters

Come and enjoy the fun at our Christmas Market. There will be stalls selling Christmas Decorations, Handmade Crafts, Homemade Cakes, Fairtrade goods and a chance to win prizes on the Raffle, Lucky Dip and Tombola and lots of games and crafts for children. Refreshments will be served. You may find some early Christmas presents. The proceeds will go to DEC’s Myanmar Refugees Appeal.

With only a few weeks to go now, there is a ‘sign up’ sheet at the back of St Peters for help needed to run stalls, etc. There is also a donation box where you can leave items suitable as prizes: small prizes (£1-£2) for children, chocolate, biscuits, wine.

Sainsbury Singers

Saturday 9 December at 3pm at St Peters

The Sainsbury Singers warmly invite you to join them and Kidz Alive for their Annual Christmas Concert. There will be traditional carols, popular Christmas songs, poems and congregation singing. Free admission, mince pies and mulled wine interval refreshments; with donations welcome on exit. They look forward to seeing you – feel free to wear your favourite Christmas jumpers and boppers!

The three churches in our parish will be celebrating Christmas in a variety of ways this year: with formal and informal services, but ones which are welcoming of all people. Please do join us as we celebrate God becoming one of us as the Light of the World.

Carols by Candlelight

Sunday 10 December at 6.30pm at St Margarets

A service for everyone as we fill this ancient church with candlelight, and sing carols of joy and peace.

Carol service

Wednesday 13 December at 7.30pm at St Johns

A traditional service of Bible readings, carols and choir pieces, followed by tea/coffee and seasonal refreshments.

Christingle

Sunday 17 December at 4pm at St Johns

The Christmas story retold with oranges, ribbons, sweets, candles and carols. Suitable for all ages, with refreshments afterwards.

Service of Lessons and Carols

Sunday 17 December at 6.30pm at St Peters

The best way to start the Christmas festivities with our traditional service of Bible readings, carols and other choral music, led by our church choir.

Carols at Caversham Court

Monday 18 December at 7.30pm at Caversham Court

The Caversham community gathers for this outdoor celebration of carols at Caversham Court Gardens (or in St Peter’s nearby, if wet)

Christingle Services

Christmas Eve 24 December at 3pm and 4.30pm at St Peters

A service, held twice due to popular demand, telling the Christmas story for all the family. Come to sing and be prepared to get involved! The doors open half an hour before the services start.

Christmas Eve 24 December at 4pm at St Margarets

The centuries-old tradition of telling the Christmas story to children with oranges and sweets, and singing some of the most-beloved Christmas carols.

Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday this year. In addition to the special services, the regular 9.30am services will take place at St Johns and St Peters. There will be no 8am service at St Peters and no morning service at St Margarets.

Nativity Live!

Christmas Eve 24 December at 4.00pm in Lower Caversham

Come and be part of the drama of Christmas as we journey with Mary and Joseph and live donkeys, meeting shepherds, live sheep, angels and wise men on our way from Caversham Baptist Church. We will sing carols as we travel, and end with a nativity scene at Caversham Methodist Church in Gosbrook Road. Ccome in costume if you wish! Refreshments after.

Midnight Mass

Christmas Eve 24 December at 11.30pm at all three churches

The start of Christmas itself. Come and celebrate the coming of Christ on this most holy of nights, at a service of Holy Communion with well-known carols.

Holy Communion: using the traditional language of the Book of Common Prayer.

Christmas Day 25 December at 9.30am at St Johns

All age Communion: A shorter Christmas communion service for all, followed by tea/coffee and Christmas cake!

Combined Worship
