Sunday services, weeks one to four

Services for the first four weeks of each month follow this pattern:

8.00am service at St Peters

A formal said service using the Book of Common Prayer.

The services on the first, third and fourth Sundays of each month are Holy Communion, and the second Sunday is Matins.

9.30am service at St Peters

A service enhanced by our robed choir. On the first Sunday of each month this is a Service of the Word; and on the second, third and fourth Sunday of each month, this is a Sung Eucharist. Every week we have Sunday Club, loosely aimed at primary school age children.

We also have All-age Communion services on some feast days when we welcome the Uniformed Organisations attached to the church and the service is family friendly.

Please join us for coffee and biscuits after the service.

9.30am service at St Johns

On the first, third and fourth Sundays of the month we have a sung Communion service with hymns, a choir and a sermon. On these days there is a Sunday Club for the 0-10 year-olds which meets during the service.

On the second Sunday of each month we hold a special All Age service for the whole family.

Please join us for coffee and biscuits after the service.

11.15am service at St Margarets

The first, second and fourth Sundays in each month are Common Worship Communion services; and the third Sunday in each month is a Service of the Word.

On the first Sunday of the month, “Junior Church” takes place at the same time as the main service. Aimed at children in the 3-11 age group, it includes a range of activities including prayers, crafts and games.

Please join us for coffee and biscuits after the service.

4.00pm Sunday@4 at St Johns

A Community Prayer Meeting, held on the second and fourth Sundays of each month.

Our PMC prayer begins, “Loving God, though our destination is not yet clear…”. We want to seek God with all of our heart, praying, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, here at St John’s and in our community.” All are welcome.

6.30pm service at St Peters

On the first Sunday of the month, this is a service of Holy Communion according to Common Worship.

On the second, third and fourth Sundays it is a service of Sung Evensong according to the Book of Common Prayer. Roughly once a month this is a fully choral service with one or more anthems, a composed setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, and a composed setting of the responses. Other weeks still include an anthem but use a chanted Mag and Nunc and the Ferial responses.

Choral services are advertised on the Forthcoming Events page. A music list is usually available at the Choir page.

When the choir are on holiday, this service is replaced by a said service of Evening Prayer according to the Book of Common Prayer. The choir holidays usually comprise the second half of July, all of August, the first Sunday after Easter and the first Sunday after Christmas.

Sunday services, week five

When a month contains five Sundays, there will be just one service on that day in the parish. The time and venue for each of these Combined Worship services will be advertised separately.
