A wonderful team of volunteers from Churches Together in Caversham came together at the start of December to deliver a fabulous final Messy Church for 2023! With it coming right at the start of December, the theme for the session was Advent, thinking in particular about it being a season of waiting – waiting for the arrival of Jesus, the One who brings love, joy, peace and hope.

We explored this theme through a range of crafts, including hope baubles, peace doves, and love cards as well as some specific Advent activities such as preparing an Advent jar of different things to do throughout the season of Advent and even an edible Advent wreath made from a doughnut, icing and candy sticks!

It was a winning day for those called Ben with Benjamin (age 8) winning the first round of our waiting game, followed by Ben (CTM Parish Youth Worker) winning the second round. Penny helped us understand the importance of waiting and thought about the meaning behind the candles on a traditional Advent wreath.

To finish off we enjoyed an amazing Christmas buffet prepared by the kitchen team who ALWAYS do such a brilliant job!

Having celebrated the birth of Christ, we move forward into the New Year knowing the love, peace, hope and joy that He brings even as we travel the ups and downs of life, and we continue waiting and trusting that one day He will return again.

In the meantime, why not join us for one of our future Messy Church sessions! These will take place on the following dates from 4-6pm at The Weller Centre: Sunday 4th February 2024, Sunday 24th March, Sunday 12th May and Sunday 7th July. For more details, contact: anna@ctmparish.org.uk
