Caversham Church Fete 2018

2018 07 14 Fete 1England were readying themselves for one last World Cup match, Angelique and Serena were due on court at Wimbledon, yet still the crowds flowed into Caversham Court Gardens.

The annual Caversham Church Fete, on July 14, was another great community day for Caversham. People came from far and wide to enjoy home-made cakes and savouries, afternoon tea or Pimms, coconut shy or hoopla and not one but three tombolas.

As the sun blazed down, the crowds were entertained by the Wright School of Dance, the Tadley Brass Band and the inimitable Fred in the Shed (well, tent this year).

Come 2pm, all eyes turned to the Western horizon to catch the first glimpse of Sqd Ldr Mark Discombe AFC in the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight‘s Spitfire MkXIX. His three sweeping passes caught everyone’s attention.

And then it was back to the sideshows, entertainment and children’s races. Oh, and scoring goals past two of the CTMParish clergy, Mike Smith and Penny Cuthbert.

As the crowds departed, the clear-up began and the workers drifted home for a deserved rest. Takings of more than £11,000 highlight just how much fun and enjoyment the fete brings to Caversham.
