We were treated to a very special evening of music at St John’s Spring Concert on 23rd April. It featured the “Burnished Brass” quintet and the mezzo-soprano Caroline Carragher, with accompaniment from Len David on piano and pipe organ.
The programme included many popular tunes from the shows including “Time heals everything” (Mack and Mabel), “Get me to the church on time” (My Fair Lady), “Love changes everything” (Aspects of Love), “All that jazz” (Chicago), as well as the folk songs “Early one morning” and “Widecombe Fair” and music from the 1920s. We were also treated to one of Stanley’s Trumpet voluntaries.
The concert ended with the audience joining the performers in the hymn “Praise my soul, the King of Heaven”, with a descant especially written for Caroline. The event raised £175 for church funds.
