St Peter’s Church, Caversham presents the fifth in a series of Organ Recitals at 3pm on Saturday 24th February featuring Jeremy Meager. The programme will include works by Bach, Mendelssohn, Franck, Duruflé, Archer, Tambling and Hurford.
Jeremy first became interested in learning to play the organ at the age of 6 whilst a probationer in the choir of St. Mary’s Church, Nottingham. His musical training continued when the family moved to Hertfordshire and he became a Chorister in the choir of St. Albans Abbey, and went on to become one of the Head Choristers. It was here that in 1979 he first took organ lessons with Dr Stephen Darlington the Master of Music at the time and afterwards with Dr Harry Bramma at Southwark Cathedral. After leaving school at 18 Jeremy continued his studies with Dr Ronald Frost at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester.
Jeremy is an Associate of the Royal College of Organists and also a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music for which he was awarded a Distinction. Until fairly recently he was organist of All Saints’ Parish Church, Leamington Spa, which houses a large 4-manual pipe organ, an excellent robed choir, and has a Cathedral-style music programme. Whilst there, Jeremy organised the Bank Holiday organ recitals and also accompanied the choir during their annual Cathedral visits. This proved to be very time consuming and he reluctantly gave up the position to concentrate more on being a solo recitalist and also working with local choirs and orchestras. Jeremy has worked full time in the organ industry for over 25 years now, and for the past 11 years has been Managing Director of Viscount Classical Organs Limited.
The new Viscount Regent Classic organ was installed in 2015 after a concentrated fund-raising effort and plays an important part in the worship at St Peter’s, supporting the 30 member choir who sing at two services on Sundays.
