St Peter, Caversham

In the interest of public safety, it has been necessary to close the public access through the church yard between the A4074 and The Warren due to a fallen roof tile and further potential risk. This closure will continue until such time that sufficient safeguards are in place to prevent injury.

At present, notices, hazard cones and tape outline the closure and direct pedestrians and mobility aid users to seek an alternative route and to be aware that crossing through the graveyard is also dangerous due to uneven ground and other trip hazards.

These measures will remain in place until we have permission to erect fencing to mark out the closure. We are seeking permission to install snow guards (wire mesh-netting) along the guttering of the south roof as a temporary measure until further investigations have been carried out. Our primary concern is the safety of people who walk through the churchyard. It is likely therefore that the section of the footpath next to the south roof will be closed and fenced off for a number of months.

We are aware of the inconvenience and disruption that the closure of this path causes to many residents and that alternative routes are poor alternatives for pedestrians and mobility aid users.

We thank you for your forbearance of the situation, for keeping yourselves and others safe and for your support as we undertake this remedial work. We will post updates on the situation through this website and public notices as we have information available.
