Dear Friends
Easter
I am constantly amazed how Christmas disappears from “The High Street” just as we should start singing carols. Easter hasn’t become quite as commercialised yet, but I fear it’s not that far away. Let’s remember that Easter Day is the start of a period when we celebrate the joy of the resurrection; and that right through to Pentecost we should proclaim “Happy Easter”.
Easter Day Services
I know we mustn’t get fixated by numbers; however all our churches were fuller than normal and fuller than last year. There really are people around here looking for a story to live by.
Annual Church Meeting
About eighty people met in St Johns for our annual meetings. Barbara Kendall (St Peter) and Richard Purkis (St John) decided not to stand again for election as Warden. We thank them for their service in the knowledge that there will be an appropriate moment to say a proper Thank You at the next Church Forums. So the following were elected unopposed as Wardens:
St Margaret: Peter Stratton, Ian Lowry
St Peter: Sabita Clark, Tony Walker
St John: Ann Deane, none
The following people were elected unopposed to the Church Council:
St Margaret: Gordon Raison
St Peter: Steve Jenkins
St John: none
You will see that at St John’s there was only one nomination for Warden and none for the Church Council. So St John’s is under-represented at the parish level of decision making. I hope this is rectified soon by someone coming forward to offer themselves for either of these positions. Please do speak to me or to Jeremy if you are interested in knowing more.
The Leadership Teams for the churches were also presented:
St Margaret:
Keith Knee-Robinson, Peter Stratton, Ian Lowry, Jenny Wright, Louise Ellis
St Peter:
Dan Tyndall, Marion Pyke, Graeme Fancourt, Sabita Clark, Tony Walker, Anne Elgeti, Mary Tucker, Sara Richards, Treasurer
St John:
Jeremy Tear, Ann Deane, Georgina Laverick, David Salisbury, Linda Shannon
I hope those who attended felt that it was a useful meeting and that those unable to be with us are able to pick up on what was said from those who were there. If anyone would like to see a copy of the draft minutes of the meetings please do ask Caroline in the office.
With my very best wishes and …
HAPPY EASTER !!
Dan
