The bell ringing band at St Peter’s and the bell ringing band at St Margaret’s were busy during the period of national mourning for the death of HRH The Queen and the proclamation of HRH King Charles. Bells are fully, sometimes called deeply, muffled for the death of a Monarch. They remained fully muffled throughout the period of national mourning apart from ringing for the proclamation. St Peter’s Church now provides high quality streaming of its services to online worshippers using new technology recently installed. But it has been a long journey to get to where we are today…When COVID struck in early 2020, St Peter’s Church, along with many others, quickly converted to online worship. Each Sunday our congregation would join in from home on Zoom using laptops, tablets or phones for a service conducted by Rev Mike Smith from the Rectory. Twenty five houses split into two mini trails around Caversham will display a special lit-up Advent window depicting part of the nativity story, from 1-25 December. The windows will be lit between 4pm-9pm approximately. As the country slowly comes out of lockdown, the St Peter’s congregation were given the opportunity to thank Mike for his leadership and support during the pandemic. This picture showing some of the messages was presented to him at a recent online church forum. Mike expressed his thanks for this and the full texts of all the messages which he also received.
